Welcome to OPTIRAS

Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) systems have been developed for the land production of freshwater and marine species. These systems are designed to provide high biomass production, reducing resource usage and maximizing control of operating parameters.

The OPTIRAS project intends to improve the technology and protocols of ground cultivation of Atlantic sole and cod concerning productivity, animal health, production conditions, environmental benefits and sustainability.

In particular, it aims to contribute to the more sustainable growth of the aquaculture sector by developing innovative sensors to measure water quality parameters and, thus, generate new jobs related to the growth of the blue economy in Portugal. In addition, the project will support businesses with research, development and innovation component, strengthening the competitiveness of the RAS in the market.
