Meet the partners: INL

Water Quality Laboratory, INL

How the work developed at INL impacts the environment?

The INL International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, located in Braga (North of Portugal), was founded by the governments of Portugal and Spain under an international legal framework to perform interdisciplinary research and deploy and articulate nanotechnology for the benefit of society.

INL aims to become the worldwide hub for nanotechnology addressing society’s grand challenges. The Sustainable Environment Cluster at INL aims to develop programs towards environmental sustainability facilitated by digitalisation and the reduction and/or adaptation to the impact of climate change.

What is INL’s primary responsibility in the project OPTIRAS?

INL is the coordinator of the project. Technically, at INL, we mainly develop online automated monitoring systems for water quality monitoring in RAS, nitrates and nitrites.

What does INL expect to achieve within the deliverables of the project?

We expect to provide innovative systems for water quality monitoring that can help to create an early alarm when water parameters that act as indicators of water status in the RAS present a negative trend, enabling to implementation of mitigation measures in time to prevent any failure in production and ensure fish welfare.
